Universal Technology Centre (UTC) is a knowledge-based organisation, which was founded by a team of Chartered Engineers/ Professional engineers with multi-disciplines to better meet the ever-increasing requirements of the industries. Our specialized areas include forensic investigation and failure analysis, building & industrial design, quality improvement, and continuing professional education.


UTC had been approved by Singapore government, Expenditure and Procurement Policy Unit and qualified for government projects in EPU/SER/34 (consultancy) and EPU/SER/35 (training) with single contract value up to S$1,000,000.


UTC’s technical competence, high quality reliable reports had been well recognised by many government agencies and societies including Ministry of Defence (Singapore), Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Public Utilities Board (PUB), The Straits Times, SMRT, High Court, State Court, China Taiping Insurance, Rajah & Tann etc.


Professional Engineers Board (Singapore) had approved UTC as course organiser in professional training (PEB/APP/CO-00455). After attending UTC's accredited courses, professional engineers can be awarded professional development units (PDU) for fulfilling the requirements of Professional Engineers Board.

Dr YU has more than 30 years of industrial work and research experience related to failure analysis, accident investigation, product development/ upgrading, quality improvement, facility assessment/ inspection, materials and structure evaluation for various industrial sectors including aerospace, marine, electronic & microelectronics, petrochemicals, building & construction. He had worked in TUV SUD PSB and Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (PSB) for 18 years. Dr YU has been included in Who’s Who in the World (Marquis Publication, USA) since 2010. 


As Principal Investigator, Dr YU successfully led and completed more than 1000 projects including damages of amusement rides (roller coaster vehicle & track), major train disruptions/accidents (power supply, vehicles, rails), accidents of cranes, aerospace engine damages, automotive steering system failure, lift rope breakage, landing gear system failure, hovercraft accidents, failures in gas and steam turbines, notebook computer burning, failures in jack-up rigs, extra-hydrogen release in huge batteries of Submarine, pipe corrosion in Jackup rig, failures of PCB, PCBA, LCD, passive components and IC, damages in power generators, heat exchanger burst and pipe leakage in oil refinery plants, submarine power cable damages, microprocessor malfunction, transformer fire, explosion of power distribution system, large ship-lifting system cracking, failures and accidents in building and structures etc.

As lead author, Dr YU published more than 40 technical papers in referred international journals and conferences. 
Dr YU had involved in many technical litigation and attended courts as expert witness. He was ever engaged by Ministry of Transportation (MOT) and Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) for forensic investigation on major disruptions of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and attending public hearing as key expert witness.

Dr Yu had shared his views to relevant authorities on root cause(s) of massive MRT breakdown on July 7, 2015, just days after the incidents. His views were later published on Top of views of The Straits Times (A4) on July 30, 2015, coincided with the findings and conclusions made by overseas expert team in more than three weeks after the incidents.
